Bald Head Island, North Carolina is located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
Transportation to Bald Head Island is by passenger ferry from Indigo Plantation Ferry
Terminal, located off of W. 9th Street on Indigo Plantation Drive in Southport, NC.
Note: There are two ferry terminals in Southport,
NC. One is the Ft. Fisher / Southport ferry and the other is the Bald
Head Island ferry. Please be sure to follow the signs to the Bald Head
Island ferry.
Before You Leave

Plan to arrive at the Ferry Terminal at least 30
minutes ahead of your departing time.

The ferry departs Southport for Bald Head Island on
the hour and departs Bald Head Island for Southport on the half
hour.
By Car

From Virginia and points North -
Take I-95 South to I-40 East (toward Wilmington, NC), take exit #414
for Castle Hayne and Brunswick County Beaches. Follow the signs for
Hwy 133, directing you toward US 17 South. Take US 17 South 11.5
miles, then turn left onto Hwy 87 South. Travel 12 miles on Hwy 87
South to Hwy 133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to the first
traffic light in Southport, NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211, also known as
Howe Street, and travel one half mile to W. 9th St. Turn right on W.
9th Street and travel to the entrance of Indigo Plantation located
at the end of W. 9th Street. Travel Straight on Indigo Plantation
Drive to the Ferry Terminal.

From South Carolina and points South - Take
I-95 North to Hwy 74 East (toward Wilmington, NC) then exit on US 17
South and turn left on Hwy 87 South. Travel 12 miles on Hwy 87 South
to Hwy 133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to the first traffic
light in Southport, NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211, also known as Howe.
Street, and travel one half mile to W. 9th Street, Turn right on W.
9th Street and travel to the entrance of Indigo Plantation located
at the end of W. 9th Street. Travel Straight on Indigo Plantation
Drive to the Ferry Terminal.

From Myrtle Beach, Charleston or Hilton Head
Island, SC - Take US 17 North to Hwy 211 South. Turn Right on
Hwy 211 South and travel straight to Southport, NC.

From Charlotte, NC and points West - take
Hwy 74 East (toward Wilmington, NC) and exit on US 17 South then
turn left on Hwy 87 South. Travel 12 miles on Hwy 87 South to Hwy
133, merge right on Hwy 133 and travel to the first traffic light in
Southport, NC. Turn Left on Hwy 211, also known as Howe Street, and
travel one half mile to W. 9th Street. Turn right on W. 9th Street
and travel to the entrance of Indigo Plantation located at the end
of W. 9th Street. Travel Straight on Indigo Plantation Drive to the
Ferry Terminal.

I-40 East toward Wilmington, NC and take exit #414

When Arriving At Indigo Plantation Ferry Terminal

Place your bags on the racks marked for departing
guests. Then park your car in one of the three general parking lots.
Lot B is the closest, and has a daily rate of $7.00. Lot C has a
daily rate of $5.00. And, Lot D, located about a half mile
from the ferry terminal, has a rate of $15.00 per vehicle on exit
from the lot. Pay for your parking at the building located at the
entrance to Lot B.

Purchase a round-trip ticket for each passenger at
the ferry terminal ticket office ($15.00, $10.00 for children under
12 years of age.) This ticket also entitles you to transportation
via tram from the ferry terminal on Bald Head Island to your rental
home.
Please indicate that you would like tram service when making your
ferry reservations.
Upon Arrival On Bald Head Island

An agent will greet you and direct you to your
assigned tram.

Identify your bags as they are placed on the racks,
and place them next to your assigned tram. The tram driver will load
them for you.
