BIRDWATCHING – Bald Head is a bird watcher’s delight. It is home to many rare species. Osprey, eagle, kingfisher, sandpiper, and herons might be spotted anywhere on the Island – but the lagoons, nature trail and creeks offer the finest viewing opportunities.

BOATING/FISHING CHARTERS - The dockmaster (910) 457-7380 can arrange small boat or fishing equipment rentals/provide information about fishing charters. Bald Head Island's marshes and creeks are best reached by kayak or canoe.

BUZZARD BAY ADVENTURES - Charter the Slo Lane, a pontoon boat which departs from Bald Head Island or Southport. Cruises include dolphin watching, inland fishing and treasure hunts. Advanced reservations are suggested. Buzzard Bay Adventures: (910) 457- 4922

CANOEING - Canoes can be rented from The Island Passage, located near the marina, call (910) 457-4944.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES - The Bald Head Recreation Dept (910) 457-5000 offers a number of fun children's past times/camps. Activities include beach trips, nature hikes, pool games, safaris, pizza parties, etc. Camp Baldy is for ages 4 to 12, and runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During the summer months, golf and tennis clinics are also offered at a small fee.

KOASTAL KIDS - (910) 457-7381 offers Beach Daze - Treasure Hunts - Beach Olympics - Sand Sculpting - Crabbing - Fishing - Shell Seeking - Includes picnic lunch. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM Ages 4-12 Fee of $20.

CRABBING AND CLAMMING - Bring your crab traps and enjoy an old-fashioned pastime of catching crabs in the Bald Head Island creeks.

CROQUET - Croquet enthusiasts from around the country come to play at the Bald Head Island Club. The Pro Shop also schedules beginners' lessons and clinics. Bald Head Island Pro Shop: (910) 457-7310.

FITNESS CENTER – the new fitness center is located in the Bald Head Island Club complex next to the pro shop. It features state of the art exercise equipment and beautiful ocean views for your workout.

FISHING - Bald Head Island offers great fishing all year. Offshore - tuna fishing begins during March. Billfish and Marlin run in May. In early June, enjoy the annual fishing rodeo, when contestants compete for the largest catch of wahoo, tuna and dolphin.
Surf Fishers go to East Beach in spring for red drum, pompano and blue fish. Pass a leisurely afternoon by renting a boat or canoe to fish for speckled trout or flounder in the creeks. In October, Bald Head hosts the annual U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament. The dockmaster can arrange small boat or fishing equipment rentals as well as provide information about fishing charters. GOLFING - Bald Head Island features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by George Cobb that is rated 4½ Stars by Golf Digest Magazine. Scenery includes freshwater lagoons, an occasional osprey or alligator, maritime forest, dune ridge, and ocean views. NATURE WALK - Enjoy the beauty of Bald Head Island by taking a self guided 20-minute walk through the maritime forest and along the salt marsh and tidal creek. In the summer, the Bald Head Island Conservancy conducts turtle walks at night and alligator and bird walks in the morning. Space is limited. OLD BALDY LIGHTHOUSE - Old Baldy is North Carolina's oldest lighthouse. It is open to the public. Climb to the top and enjoy a spectacular view. Visit the Old Baldy museum next door and see how the early lighthouse keepers lived. Historic narrated tours of the island are also offered.

SOUTHPORT - Buy a ferry day pass at the Bald Head terminal (round trip $10.00) and spend a leisurely afternoon in historic Southport. Stroll the quaint and charming downtown and treat yourself to great antiques, shopping, and dining. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the ambience of this lovingly preserved Southern Village.

TENNIS - The Bald Head Island Club has four hard-surface tennis courts. Equipment rental and sportswear are available through the tennis shop. The Tennis Pro offers lessons/clinics. Call the tennis shop to reserve your court time. Bald Head Island Tennis Shop: (910) 457-7457

TURTLE CONSERVANCY - The Conservancy is a non-profit organization, and offers a variety of educational programs. These include fishing schools, and great children’s programs for grades 3-12. We highly recommend the turtle walks. These begin with a short discussion of the magnificent 300-pound loggerhead turtles that nest on Bald Head Island beaches, and the hatchlings that will emerge.
